What if I am flying to Jeddah?
Most international flights cross a miqat before landing. Change at home or at your departure airport, and make your intention when the crew announce the miqat or shortly before. If you plan to land in Jeddah and enter ihram there, ask a scholar first, as views differ.
What do I wear?
Men wear two unstitched white cloths and footwear that leaves the ankles and top of the foot open. Women wear ordinary modest clothing of any colour. In ihram, women do not wear a face veil or gloves.
What is forbidden in ihram?
- Cutting hair or nails
- Using perfume or scented products
- Hunting
- Marital relations
- Men covering the head or wearing stitched clothing
Scented soap and wipes catch out many people, so pack unscented ones. This page is a general guide. For rulings specific to your situation, ask a scholar you trust.
