When is the best time to go?
| Trip | Best months | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Umrah | November to February | Cooler for Tawaf and Sa'i. Check Ramadan and school holidays for crowds. |
| Riyadh and Diriyah | November to March | Comfortable days, chilly evenings |
| AlUla | October to March | Warm days, and nights can drop near 6 C |
| Jeddah and the Red Sea | November to April | Lower humidity, warm water |
| Abha and Asir | June to September | Green, mild and busy |
How do I cope with Umrah in the summer?
Perform Tawaf after sunset or before sunrise. The courtyard marble is cooled, but the walk from your hotel is not. Drink before you feel thirsty, carry an umbrella, and rest between Tawaf and Sa'i. Heat exhaustion is the most common health problem among pilgrims.
Does it ever rain?
Rarely, but it matters when it does. Short storms between November and January cause flash floods in Jeddah and Makkah, because the drains are limited. Never drive through a flooded road or wadi. Abha gets most of its rain from March to August.
What about dust?
Dust storms are most common in spring and early summer around Riyadh and the Eastern Province. Keep a mask handy if you have asthma, and expect flight delays.
When are Ramadan and Eid in 2027?
Ramadan 2027 is expected to start around 8 February, with Eid al-Fitr around 10 March, and Eid al-Adha around 16 May. All dates depend on the moon sighting.
